The fight continues
Let’s celebrate the first major step toward health care reform
since the 1960s. The weekend vote by the House of Representatives holds the promise of better health care for most Americans. It’s a bold move against tough opposition.
Already, some members of the Senate are saying the bill won’t make it very far as they take up the issue. But the fight is underway.
Like many of you, I watched some of the cable news coverage of the passionate House debate and the close partisan vote. I’ve read stories about the matter published by various news organizations. I’ve listened to those who have been on the talk show circuit. While I still feel a bit uneasy about the long-term impact of the proposed cutbacks on Medicare spending I support the overall proposal. It’s good news for we Baby Boomers and our aging parents.
Last year, we saw an historic multi-racial coalition of Americans elect the first black president of the United States. Few people wanted to believe, at first, that it was possible. Some doubt now that there will be any significant health care reform in this country. Many didn’t support Lyndon Johnson’s successful push to start Medicare and Medicaid. I’m betting that a change is coming. What about you?
